Scholarships
Students currently enrolled in the Fisheries Biology program are eligible to apply for scholarships offered through the department.
Applicants to the program and students at other institutions are not eligible to apply.
Thanks to the generous contributions of our alumni and other supporters, we are able to offer scholarships. The scholarships listed below are specifically designated for fisheries majors, subject to the availability of funding.
Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission/James Joseph Scholarship
Master’s degree candidate in marine fisheries or master’s degree candidate in fisheries (area unspecified).

The George and Beverly Allen Fisheries Assistantship
Supports experiential learning opportunities to qualified and deserving undergraduate or graduate students majoring in Fisheries Biology to aid in their pursuit of study or research; and to enhance academic instruction in the classroom, laboratory, or field learning.

Golden Gate Angling and Casting Club Fisheries Fellowship Fund
Given to graduate students working with professors on campus. The fellowship can include research, work at the hatchery or at the Telonicher Marine Lab (Trinidad) and working with undergraduates alongside faculty in field courses or labs

DaniellePlum Zumbrum Memorial Scholarship
Supports Fisheries graduate student thesis research on salmonid fishes (salmon, steelhead, trout). Student must be a graduate student in the upcoming school year and a Fisheries major.

Fisheries Founding Faculty Scholarship
Scholarship is awarded to a full-time undergraduate student in Fisheries Biology with an approved honors thesis proposal, or to a graduate student in the Fisheries option. Issued on the basis of academic performance and promise. Must be a full-time undergraduate (12 or more units per term) or graduate (9 or more units per term) student in the upcoming school year.

Gary Estenson Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to undergraduate majoring in Fisheries Biology or in Marine Biology.

Marin Rod and Gun Club Scholarship Fund
Scholarship for Fisheries graduate student. Preference is given to applicants that write a statement (limited to 100 words) on how their research project will benefit California sport and commercial fisheries. This statement should be easily understood by a lay audience. Financial need can be considered but is not the most important factor.

Peter F. Lopes Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to Fisheries Biology major, having completed at least 9 upper division units towards the major, with demonstrated financial need. Preference given to students in Marine Fisheries option.

Richmond Rod and Gun Club Award
Supports graduate students pursuing a degree in fisheries who are in good academic standing. Priority will be given to students conducting field-based research that explores the connections between freshwater and anadromous fishes and their habitats. Preferred research topics include, but are not limited to, the impacts of watershed degradation, the introduction of exotic species, and pollution. Additional preference will be given to students focusing on projects in Northern California, particularly those centered on species such as steelhead, salmon, trout, and striped bass.

Robert A Behrstock
Supports students pursuing degrees in Fisheries Biology. To qualify, applicants must be full-time undergraduate students working toward a degree in Fisheries Biology. This scholarship is renewable, offering continued support to eligible students.

The Thomas Lambert scholarship is awarded to major in Fisheries Biology with junior or senior standing

Ridenhour Fisheries Student Support Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial support to undergraduate or graduate students majoring in Fisheries Biology for experiential learning opportunities at Humboldt State University and to enhance academic instruction in the classroom, laboratory, or field at Humboldt State University.

Granite Bay Flycasters Bill Carnazzo Fellowship
Given to graduate students engaged in research studies of field-based understandings of the links between freshwater and anadromous fishes and the habitats upon which they depend, who will have completed coursework toward completion of their degree, and who should complete their thesis within the year in which the fellowship is awarded. The preferred research areas include, but are not limited to, research on impacts brought about by watershed degradation, exotic species introductions, and pollution. Preference will also be given to projects in Northern California. Upon completion of the thesis, the recipient will provide a summary report.

Roelofs Humboldt Fisheries Endowed Scholarship Fund
Support graduate students pursuing an advanced degree in Fisheries at Cal Poly Humboldt. Students must be a graduate student majoring in Fisheries, have a 3.0 GPA, and be enrolled full time. Preference is for students focusing on fisheries conservation and enhancement research that applies to or is in North Coast watersheds and adjacent marine waters.

The Skeesick Family Humboldt Bay Fisheries Research
This fund is intended to support: 1) Cal Poly Humboldt Fisheries Biology graduate students studying socioeconomically important species of fishes of Humboldt Bay and nearshore coastal waters (this can include but is not limited to financial awards for research, equipment purchases, or any area identified as the area of greatest need), and 2) to support Fisheries Biology students, both graduate and undergraduate, to an end professional society conferences.

Support students whose studies focus or who are majoring in Oceanography and/ or Marine Fisheries. In good academic standing. Must demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA or California Dream Act Application.
